Calculating g on Moon

An astronaut on the moon wishes to calculate the local g in the area. He sets up a wire with a mass of 1.7 grams and hanging from it an object with mass 4.98 kg. He sends some kind of pulse down the wire and calculates that it takes 40.86 ms to traverse the wire. What is g? You can neglect the mass of the wire when calculating the tension.

That was everything that was given in the problem. I have not a clue how to solve it. What I did was just use the equation of T=2pi[sqrt(l/g)] to solve for g and hope that the wire acts like a spring or something.

I’m totally sure that’s incorrect, but hey I’m not an astrophysicist.

Speed of Gravity

Why hasn’t anyone measured the speed of gravity yet?

As in, how long does it take for the gravitational field of a mass to affect another mass?

Current Carriers and conduction

1. Do the protons flow when current flow?

In metallic conductors, free electrons are the current carriers, i.e, it is due to the motion of the free electrons that conduction takes place in a metallic conductor. The protons do not move as they are inside the nucleus and bound by strong nuclear forces. It is the electrons of the outermost shell of the atom which are least bound to the atom, flow and cause conduction

In semiconductors the current carriers are free electrons and holes.

What are holes?

Holes are actually vacancies created when an electron is freed from a bond. It is assigned a positive charge. When a potential difference is applied across a semiconductor, the free electrons move towards the positive terminal as in the case of a metal. The bonded electrons also move towards positive terminal from vacancy to vacancy and this causes the holes  t move towards the negative terminal.

Central Board of Secondary Education

Lakhs of children who wrote the exam are eagerly waiting for the results. Usually CBSE publishes its result by 2nd week of May. The 2012 CBSE results may go on to the third week.
